Warwickshire - Hotels - Property - Travel - England
Warwick
is known for its castle, the home of the earls of Warwick
including the 13th Earl, executioner of Joan of Arc.
There is also a fortress that towers over the banks
of the River Avon that was first fortified by William
the Conqueror in 1068. Warwick castle is the best medieval
castle in England.
North of Warwick is Kenilworth
which has a superb choice of restaurants and small shops.
Kenilworth also has a castle which is said to be the
most romantic ruin as Queen Elizabeth I was entertained
by Robert Dudley.
Not far from both of these places
is Royal Leamington Spa. And has a good range of quality
shops. While you are there its worth making a visit
to the Royal Pump Rooms to taste the spa water which
is what the town is known for.
For a place to have St George
the dragon slayer, Lady Godiva and the jet pioneer Frank
Whittle has plenty of stories to tell. Coventry six
hundred years ago was ranked fourth out of England’s
cities. And it still has the monuments from the past,
having a great medieval guildhall, monastic and almshouses
foundations and timber framed shops and pubs. Coventry
was the birthplace for the motor industry and has moved
with time coming up with the idea for traffic free shopping
precincts to Basil Spence’s cathedral, which houses
British art and is a symbol of international reconciliation.
The area offers the best of town
and country to the tourist. For the tourist can visit
two world renowned motor museums, a living Roman fort
and Britain's national organic garden, canals and country
churches, great houses and battlefields. And there is
a range of accommodation, from elegant country hotels
to homely guest houses.
In the countryside around offers six fascinating and
historical National Trust houses and gardens, including
Hidcote Manor and Charlecote Park, with their recent
restoration work and exciting new discoveries.
