Radnorshire is a
county in west central Wales, bounded on the north by
Montgomeryshire and Shropshire, east by Herefordshire,
and on the south and west by Breconshire and Cardiganshire.
Its area is 471 square miles.
Overall, the county is hilly with a general elevation
of around 1000 feet, reaching 2163 in the rugged Radnor
Forest. It is drained principally by the Wye and its tributaries.
The Wye forms a portion of its southern border, and the
Teme forms a part of the northern border with Shropshire.
The fertile valleys produce agricultural products, but
the county is best known for sheep raising. Radnorshire
wool is famous.
The principal urban districts are Presteign, Llandrindon
Wells, and Knighton.
Other
Principal Cities are Presteigne, Llandrindod Wells,
Knighton, Rhayader and New Radnor.
