Denbighshire is a
maritime county in the north of Wales, bounded on the
east by the Dee, Flintshire and Cheshire (English), on
the SW by the Chirk and Shropshire, on the south by Montgomeryshire
and on the west by the Conway and Carnavonshire. It has
an area of 670 square miles.
On the north, the county has an 18-mile coastline on the
Irish Sea, extending between the towns of Colwyn and Rhyn.
The highest peaks are Moel Sych and Cader Berwyn. Most
of the shire is in farm or pasture lands. Fertile, scenic
valley stretch along the six main rivers, the Clwyd, Elwy,
Conway, Dee Chirk, and Ceiriog.
The county's leading towns are Denbigh, the county town,
Wrexham, Colwyn, and Ruthin. There is an ancient hill-fortress
called Dmorben.
Other
Principal Cities/Towns are Denbigh, Wrexham, Ruthin,
Abergele and Llangollen.
