Berwickshire - Scotland - Travel - Accommodation - Tourism
Berkwickshire is a border and maritime county occupying
the southeast tip of Scotland. It is bounded on the north
and east by the North Sea, on the southeast by the Tweed
and Northumberland in England, on the south by Roxburghshire,
on the west by Midlothian, and on the northwest by East
Lothian. It covers an area of 457 square miles.
The land is generally low and fertile in the south. In
the northwest it rises into the Lammermuirs, the highest
peak of which is Says Law at 1749 feet. In the western
part along the Leader River are the Lauderdale Mountains.
The coastline is bold and rocky, and the few harbors are
much exposed. Principal rivers are the Tweed, which forms
the boundary with England for 21 miles, as well as the
Eye, Leader, Eden, Leet, Dye, and Black and White Adders.
Duns is the county town. Other large towns are Lauder,
Eyemouth, and Coldstream.
