Letzeburgesch is the
national language, which has some similarities to German.
German is the first foreign language for most Luxembourgers
and used in the media. French is the administrative
language. English is also widely spoken in the capital,
though less so out in the country.

UK/EU nationals entering
Luxembourg should have a full passport. Visas are not
required.
Risks to health are the
same as those in the UK. The form E111 from any Post
Office will enable UK visitors to get urgent medical
treatment for free in Luxembourg. This should be completed
and stamped at the Post Office before you leave and
carried with you.
Most travel agents can
arrange travel to Luxembourg.
Air
Luxembourg's national airline is Luxair, which offers
regular services to a number of European destinations.
Luxair files daily from Luxembourg to London Heathrow
(two flights), London Stanstead (two flights) and Manchester
(one flight) British Airways offers flights from London
Gatwick (five flights). Approximate flight time from
London is one and a half hours.
Rail
Luxembourg City is linked by rail to most major European
countries. Eurostar operate a direct service from London
to Brussels (trains depart from London Waterloo station
or Ashford, Kent). The journey time is 3 hours 30 minutes
with connections to Luxembourg. Total travelling time
from London to Luxembourg is approximately 6 hours 30
minutes.
Another daily rail
connection is London (Charring Cross) - Ostend - Brussels-
Luxembourg taking approximately 11 hours
Sea/Road
Luxembourg can be reached within a day from the UK via
Belgium and France. The quickest way is to cross the
channel by driving onto the
Le Shuttle trains, which run from Folkestone in Kent
to Calais in France.
Car Ferries also
operate frequently between Dover and Calais and Dover
and Ostend.
Coach
There is good motorcoach transportation between Luxembourg
City and most major European cities. Eurolines (Tel
: 020 7730 8235) runs a daily service from London and
Brussels with an outward connection to Luxembourg.
Findel, Luxembourg's
airport is 6 kilometres (4 miles) northeast of Luxembourg
City. Bus and coach services depart from the airport
to the station on a regular basics. Taxis are also available.
A 10% tip is usual for taxi drivers. Travel time from
the airport to the city centre is approximately 15 minutes.
Rail
Luxembourg National Railways operates fast and frequent
schedules throughout the country. Luxembourg City on
the main line from Brussels and is served by 8 express
trains daily, taking around 3 hours. Network tickets
can be purchased which are valid for 1 day, 5 days or
1 month. Reductions are offered for weekend and holiday
tickets.
Road
There is an excellent network of roads and motorways
in Luxembourg. Traffic drives on the right.
Bus
The main bus station is at the railway station. Cross
county buses are punctual and operate between all major
towns.
Taxi
Taxis are plentiful, but cannot be hailed on the street
and should be picked up at ranks. They are metered and
there is a minimum charge, with a 10% surcharge is applied
from 22.00-0600.
Car Hire
All the main agencies operate in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg has a wide
range of hotels. Accommodation standards are indicated
by ratings of up to five stars (the highest quality).
A wide range of restaurants
is available in Luxembourg. The cost varies with the
type of restaurant. Bills normally taxes and service
charges. Most restaurants take major credit and charge
cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Dinners
Card).

50 cycles AC. Industrial supply 380 volts, 3 phase 50
cycles AC. Plugs with two round pins are used. Adapters
are recommended.
