Essex - Hotels - England
Essex
is a county in southeast England, which has the River
Stour, Suffolk and Cambridge in the north and the North
Sea in the East, in the South has the Thames and Kent
and to the west London, Hertfordshire and Middlesex
and covers an area of 1529 square miles.
Essex has many river estuaries
that are dotted along the coastline. They are Mersea,
Foulness, Osea and Canvey. In the centre and north of
Essex is a high and very wooded area with dales and
grasslands whereas the southwest of Essex is the Hainault
districts and Epping which has the remains of the very
old Waltham Forest, which at on time stretched from
London to Colchester. In Essex you will find large rivers
which are the Stour, Crouch, Roach, Thames, Colne, Blackwater
and Lea.
A bit of history, the Norman Castle
at Colchester is surrounded by Roman and Saxon remains.
At Ashington the church tower was built by King Canute.
At Hedingham has the Norman Castle of De Veres and at
Hadleigh there is a Norman fortress.
Chelsford, West Ham, Romford,
Basildon and Brentwood are the other major towns in
Essex.
