City Breaks - Vienna

Vienna is famous for its coffee houses and sitting directly across the Rathus is probably it's most famous one Café Landtmann.

The Rathus (City Hall) was built between 1872 and 1883 and plays each winter to the magical Winter Christkindlmarkt (Vienna Christmas Market) which usually happens around late November and goes up right towards December 23rd. Here you can pick up0 Christmas decorations for your tree and little trinkets to fill a Christmas stocking whilst warming your hands on bags of roasted chestnuts and mugs of gluewin, which is a spicy mulled wine/

The elegant café was opened in 1873 by Franz Landtmann, and since then has welcomed the likes of Sigmund Freud and Marlene Dietrich among its clientéle.

Although Café Landtmann has a full menu, it is completely acceptable, as with all Viennese cafés, to spend two or three hours there nursing a cup of coffee and reading the numerous international newspapers which are on display.
