Career
highlights
Having made four mature displays for England Under-21s,
Steven was given his full international debut
in the Wembley friendly against Ukraine in May
2000. His three starts this season have brought
his caps total to eight and he scored his first
goal, a 25-yard screamer to equalise in England's
5-1 victory over Germany in Munich in September.
One of the most outstanding
young England talents, it's often easy to forget
that Steven only made his first team debut for
Liverpool in November 1998.
He has rapidly established
himself as one of the best midfielders in the
Premiership, ranked alongside Roy Keane and Patrick
Vieira as a skilful, highly influential player
with a lethal shot and superb passing range.
Last year he was the overwhelming
choice as PFA Young Player of the Year as he played
an instrumental role in Liverpool's capture of
the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup. Aged only
22, Steven has a fantastic future at the heart
of England's midfield for many years to come and
is expected to play a leading role in England's
forthcoming World Cup and European Championship
campaigns. |
