Gary was included in the senior team for the first time in the Umbro Cup tie with Japan at Wembley in 1995 (won 2-1)
A regular in Sven's squads until the Paraguay match at Anfield in April 2002 (4-0), Gary then suffered a broken foot prior to the World Cup in Korea and Japan.

A return to action with Manchester United in September 2002 was shortly followed by his recall to the England squad for the Euro 2004 qualifiers versus Slovakia and Macedonia.

Missed just one game at both Euro 96 and France 98 and played in all three at Euro 2000.

He signed for Manchester United just before his eighteenth birthday and has won five League Championships, two FA Cups and one European Cup
