Celtic was formed in 1888
by Brother Walfred, who was an Irish monk that
came over to Scotland so that he could give
to the Irish that were living in Scotland something
that they could be part of and proud of. His
inspiration came from Edinburgh Hibernian so
he decided to make his own football team. At
first he was going to call his team Glasgow
Hibernian but he settled on Glasgow Celtic Football
Club.
Celtic first won the Scottish
League champions in 1892-93 season and then
went onto win in it the next three seasons in
succession. In total the club has won this title
38 times with them dominating if from 1904 to
1910, when the team won five times in a row.
And again three times in a row from 1997 to
2002. And in the between years.
They have also won the
Scottish Cup 31 times with their first coming
in 1892 the same year that they were Scottish
League champions. The last time they won it
was back in 2001. The team has again won this
title the years in between.
And they have also won the Scottish League Cup
12 times the first of this title coming in the
1956-57 season with them winning it the following
season in 1957-58. The Last time they won it
was in 2000-01. This is the title that out of
all of them that the team has not fared too
well in even though from 1966 to 1970 they won
the trophy four years running.
Celtic have also won the
European Cup in 1966-67 but were runners-up
in 1969-70 they are also winners of Glasgow
Exhibition Cup: 1902, Scottish league commemorative
shield: 1904/05 1909/10, Empire Exhibition Trophy:
1938, Victory in Europe Cup: 1945, St. Mungo
Cup: 1951, Coronation up 1953.
Celtic play at Celtic Park in Glasgow and has
the ground capacity of 60, 832. The club also
has a record attendance of 92,000 vs. Rangers
in 1983, a record victory of 11-0 vs. Dundee
in 1985, a record defeat of 0-8 vs. Motherwell
in 1937, they have the most league appearances
by Paul McStay with 499 games and the highest
scorer of 50 goals by Jimmy McGory. With their
current manager is Martin O’ Neill.

are Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton, Alan Thompson,
John Hartson, Shaun Malloney, Liam Miller, Varga,
Didier Agathe, Dianbobo Balde, Paul Lambert,
Stilian Petrov, John Kennedy, Ross Wallace,
Jackie McNamara, Jamie Smith and Craig Beattie.
Celtic hopes to finish
at the top of the Scottish Premier League and
to get into the final and win the title of the
Scottish Cup, Scottish League Champions and
Scottish League Cup. Also to do well in next
seasons UEFA.
