Juventus football club was set up when a group of young students from Liceo D’Azeglio in Turin as they wanted something to do. The sports club they set up was one with the aim of playing football – which was started in Britain, and was becoming popular quite fast in Europe. Juventus were formed in 1900 and their first strip was a pink shirt. They only changed to black and white in 1903 after the wrong shipment was sent from England where a new strip was to be made.

The clubs first president was Enrico Canfari, and they played against the more experienced and organised teams in the city. Juventus then had their first success in 1905 when they won its first Italian title in a competition with two other teams, Genoa and Milan. The clubs first home was at D’Armi Sqaure, which the club still uses today.

After the First World War the clubs president was Corrado Corrandini, who was a poet and man of letters. It was Corrandini that wrote the clubs anthem which stayed until the Sixties.
In the 1925-26 season Juventus won their second championship after a good run of form.

Under the first trainer Jeno Karoly and inside left Hirzer who joined the cub from Hungary. Along with Giampiero Comi, one of the greatest goalkeepers who joined the club in 1923 with Edoardo Agnelli was made president. These players joined the exciting players of Rosetta, Munerati, Bigatto and Grabbi.

From 1925-36 the club had an excellent period as they won five successive championships. And the trainer, Carlo Carcano had the great players that included Orsi, Caligaris, Monti, Cesarini.
Despite Juventus winning the five times from 1930 to 1935 the Italian national side won the World Cup in 1934. Also at this time the club got its first taste of world football when they were in the Europe Cup ( Champions League of today) in which they reached the semi-finals four times. The club also changed their ground in 1933 to the town stadium, which was built for the World University Games and the club stayed her until 1990.

Juventus in 1947 saw the arrival of Giovanni Agnelli who became president of the club. In which had the great players like Carlo Parolo and John Hansen and Praest, two Danes.

The team’s highest points came when they won two championships in 1950 and 1952. With the hero of the team being Giampiero Boniperti, who had the records for appearances (444) and goals (177).

From 1955 the clubs president was Umberto Agnelli who took over this post from his brother Giovanni. And Juventus went on to win the championships of 1958, 1960 and 1961. This was the first time that an Italian Club was entitled to wear the star after the club had won 10 national championships.

Having added the services of Omar Sivori and John Charles, Juventus won championships in 1958, 1960 and 1961. For the first time an Italian Club became entitled to wear the star after winning 10 national championships.

Juventus had another good year in 1967 under the president Vittore Catella. Then form 1971 with Giovanni Boniperti as president the club enjoyed the success. As from 1972 to 1986 the club won nine championships and had victories in the European and Intercontinental tournaments.


Vycpalek, Parola and Giampiero Boniperti were the trainers, while on the pitch Juventus featured such greats as Zoff, Scirea, Tardelli, Cabrini, Causio, Rosa, Gentile, Furino, Anastasi and Roberto Bettega today's vice-president.

It was in 1990 that the club won the UEFA Cup and the Italian Cup, with today’s president Vittorio Chiusano and Dino Zoff as trainer) and in 1993 Juventus won the UEFA Cup again.

More recently the club had their first success in nine years under new management which was A.Giraudo, Luciano Moggi and Roberto Bettega and had the nickname "the triad". The team then went on to win the Italian Cup in 1994-95 season but lost in the final of the UEFA Cup in that same season. The club has also won the Champions Cup once by beating Liverpool at Heysel and in the final match of the season Juventus took on Ajax for the title of European Champions in Rome.

In which after an exciting game Juventus won after penalty kicks from Peruzzi, Ferrara, Pessotto, Padovano and Jugovic after the match ended 1-1 after extra time.

In the next year Juventus won the Intercontinental Cup held in Tokyo, the European Supercup against Paris Saint Germain and their 24th Scudetto Sadly the final of the Champions League they lost to Borussia Dortmund, but Lippi cameback to win the Supercup and their 25th championship.

At Juventus the star players are Alessandro Birindelli, Ciro Ferrara, Paolo Montero, Igor Tudor, Mark Iuliano, Lilian Thuram, Alessio Tacchinardi, Antonio Conte, Pavel Nedved, Gianluca Zambrotta, Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet.

Juventus hopes to finish the season in second place or within the top three. The club also has the aim of winning or featuring amongst the Italian titles this season. And to progress through the UEFA Champions League with the aim of winning or to reach the final.
