AC Milan
AC Milan was formed on
16th December 1899 in a hotel, called the Hotel
du Nord by a group of fans. This made the sports
club but it had already existed in the form
of the Milan Football and Cricket Club. And
its first headquarters were in the Wineshop
at Via Berchet in Milan. Over the past years
AC Milan has become the strongest and the most
popular club in the world.
The club authorative people
have a made a mark on Milan club as Alfred Edwards,
the English founder who two years after the
club formed won the first Italian Champion title,
and all the way up to Silvio Berlusconi who
was president when he won more trophies than
anyone else.
AC Milan owes its success
to the great coaches like Gipo Viani, Nereo
Rocco and Nils Liedholm who were the gurus of
the Sixties. After them followed the more great
coaches such as Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello
who relied on their good tactics and strategies
on the more modern and exciting football.
For it was Sacchi at the time of Berlusconi
who won in four seasons a league championship
title, the European Champion’s Clubs’
Cup twice, the European Supercup twice and the
Intercontinental Cup two times in a row. With
Capello he won four league championship titles,
a European Supercup and a European Champion
Clubs' Cup in five years.
Today, even though the
current coach Carlo Ancelotti who carries on
the line of excellent coaches under the Berlusconi’s
ere, Alberto Zaccheroni in his two years at
the club brought the club to win the most recent
and excellent league championship title.
With the thanks of its great players Milan has
become a winning team in Italy and throughout
the world. These great players were Gunnar Gren,
Gunnar Nordhal, Nils Liedholm (the mythical
Swedish "Gre-No-Li" trio), Juan Alberto
Schiaffino, and José Altafini who were
envied by all the teams in the world.
Milan was the best when
Gianni Rivera was the best Italian football
along with the players like Anquiletti, Trapattoni,
Lodetti, Sormani and Prati. And Rivera’s
name is linked with another great player when
he won the star’s league championship,
the talented player was called Franco Baresi
who took over from him, later become the symbol
and flag of the record-holder of Milan for twenty
years, who greatly warrants the title of "Milan's
Player of the Century" in a public survey.
It was this Milan team that are remembered as
the unbeatable team. As the captain Baresi had
the extraordinary players of Dutch trio of Marco
Van Basten, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard, Montenegro,
Dejan Savicevic, George Weah, Zvonimir Boban,
and Marcel Desailly.
At this time the club
could also rely on the many other great players’
contributions of Italian champions like Carlo
Ancelotti, Paolo Maldini, Mauro Tassotti, Daniele
Massaro, Alessandro Costacurta, Alberigo Evani,
Roberto Donadoni, Filippo Galli, Demetrio Albertini,
Roberto Baggio, and Sebastiano Rossi.
And those that are still playing at the top
levels such as Massimo Ambrosini, Christian
Abbiati, Serginho, Gennaro Ivan Gattuso, Andriy
Shevchenko, Manuel Rui Costa and Filippo Inzaghi
Alessandro Nesta and Rivaldo.
As it was these players that gave the club its
wonderful style, charm and the winning attitude
from the technical staff and from the players
themselves.
The team presents itself
to its fans with a hundred years football tradition
and constant commitment and high professional
skills on the pitch and off it.
As we go into the new
millennium Milan has an exciting challenge which
is always striving to achieve success at all
levels. And AC Milan is always dedicated to
