Lens was formed in 1906
by secondary students but the first roots of
the club were properly formed on 18th October
1907. With the clubs first presidents and the
mediators between the young players and their
parents was Sir Lotin and Sir Douterlinghe.
And the artois league allows Lens to play in
the 1907-1908 championship. This team wore black
and green.
After the First World
War Lens is again back in the artois competition
in 1922, but in 1924 the club then playing in
blue changes to the blood colours which is kept
today. It was then two years later that Lens
won their first trophy, the artois Championship.
In the 1930 the club was
in Division 2 where they finish the season in
fifth place before winning this championship
as early as 1937. From 1949 to 1956, Lens didn’t
have the finishes to progress to second place
of the championship to a point of the champion,
Nice.
Lens then rebuild in the
France Championship Avid the next season but
came back quickly to the high levels thanks
to the help from the Mayor, Andre Delelis. And
the Club contests a semi-final of the France
Cutting in 1971-72. This brings back the supporters
to the stadium. Then the following year the
team does even better and they win the championship
and come back to the top flight.
In the 1970s Lens compete
in the UEFA Cup after they beat the Italians.
But Lens was then eliminated by Magdebourg and
went down to the Division 2 for three years
after which they returned to the top flight
of the European Level.
More recently the club
couldn’t qualify for the quarter finals
of the League of the Champions in 2000 despite
the victory in 1999 at Wembley, which no French
team has done. In 2000 Lens had a good season
in which they finished the season in Division
1 which they hope to stay in.
2001-2002 was a good season
for the club as they qualified for the League
of the champions
with Joel Muller at the club Lens then lead
the France championship after twenty-eight days
before they had a bad time ending to Gerland.
Lens play their football at the Stade Bollaert
which has the capacity of 41649 spectators.
The star players at Lens
are Rigobert Song, Adama Coulibaly, Jacek Bak,
Seydou Keita, Daniel Moreira, Mounir Diane,
Olivier Thomert, Dagui Bakari and Abdoulaye

Lens hopes to finish the
season within the tope ten of the League with
the aim of featuring in the French titles this
season and to qualify for next seasons UEFA
Cup. In which the club hopes to progress further
in.
