Atapattu on most occasions opens the innings
with Sanath Jayasuriya. He is a perfect foil
for the flamboyant left-hander. Atapattu is
technically correct and possesses the finest
back foot defence in the game at the moment.
Atapattu
accumulates a score, rather than smashing the
ball to all parts of the ground. He is capable
of playing long innings and is hugely experienced.
He is better equipped to deal with South African
conditions than most of his fellow batsmen and
much will be expected of him in the anchor role.
Atapattu
is also one of the better fielders in the squad
- an area in which the Sri Lankans would do
well to improve.
