Vaas'
main responsibility in the World Cup will be
to take wickets with the new ball. The seamer
is particularly adept at sliding the ball away
from the right-handed batsman and then swinging
the ball back in quite late. He bowls at a decent
pace and is experienced enough not to get rattled
if a few shots are played.
Vaas
carries a great deal of responsibility with
the ball in hand. Apart from Muttiah Muralitharan,
the remaining Sri Lankan bowlers - especially
the seamers - are inexperienced and they look
to Vaas to take the lead. If the Lankans are
to keep their opposition quiet in the opening
15 overs and again at the death, their premier
strike bowler cannot afford an off-day.
The
left-hander is also a belligerent lower-order
batsman, capable of scoring quick runs at the
end of an innings.
