of the finest batsmen the game has produced.
With more than 9000 one-day runs under the belt
and a century count in the double figures, De
Silva is a batsman to be respected.
He
most often bats in the middle order. De Silva
is adept at working the ball into the gaps,
on either side of the wicket, and accumulating
a score with as little risk as possible. Lately
he has acquired a reputation as a bit of a compulsive
hooker, which could be exploited on the South
African wickets.
De
Silva has improved his bowling to the point
where his off-breaks can be regarded as a genuine
bowling option for his captain. The 37-year-old
has a world of experience and remembers what
it was like to win the tournament - he will
be an integral member of the team.
