Shaun
Pollock is arguably the second best allrounder
in the world after Jacques Kallis. He goes into
the World Cup ranked the best bowler. Pollock
is known for his miserly spells with the new
ball, a crucial period in the match when batsmen
are looking to make the most of fielding restrictions.
He is not only very accurate, but is also able
to swing the ball both ways. The Natalian bowls
with a plan to each batsman and is able to adjust
quickly according to the match circumstances.
Pollock
is also a devastating hitter in the lower order.
He has a Test century to his name as a testimony
to his talent and is able to work the ball
about, as well as belt it to the boundary. Coming
in at number eight, he adds great depth to the
SA batting order and makes them a difficult
team to bowl out, or contain.
Pollock
was thrown into the captaincy role when Hansie
Cronje admitted to accepting funds from bookmakers.
Since those first raw days, he has matured into
a solid captain and now leads his team with
great authority.
