Gibbs
is South Africa's fire starter. He is electric
at the crease, lightening in the field and often
in trouble off it.
The
Capetonian will open the innings for SA - and
is likely to do so in a style unmatched in international
cricket. He has shots all around the wicket
and is prepared to use them all and more. He
times the ball beautifully, is nearly impossible
to tie down and, should he bat for any length
of time, will take the match away from the opposition.
However,
the huge weakness in Gibbs' game is his temperament.
He can try to play too many shots and consequently
can get himself out. He is as unpredictable
as he is exciting to watch.
Something
should also be said of Gibbs' fielding. With
Jonty Rhodes, he forms a near impenetrable off-side
ring and without a doubt the most dangerous
in the world.
