Profile
Vaughan
started his career in the England middle-order,
but with the retirement of Michael Atherton
he has made a place for himself at the top of
the order. Although he is in prolific form he
will probably bat at three in the CWC lending
depth to the England line-up.
Vaughan
is technically very correct; an orthodox player
with a stylish flair to his strokes. He came
to the fore in international cricket in the
2002 season, when he strafed the Sri Lanka and
Indian attacks to all parts of all grounds.
Neither team had any answer to aggression and
he twice fell just short of double-centuries.
Vaughan
and Trescothick form England's most important
and most promising batting partnership. Much
of the visitors' fortunes at the Cricket World
Cup will depend on whether Vaughan can continue
his form from the Ashes and VB Series in Australia
on wickets that are bound to suit his batting. |
