Profile
While Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie bring
accuracy to the attack, Lee brings sheer pace.
Not quite the force he was when he burst onto
the scene in the 1999/00 season, the wind seemingly
taken from his sails by his ability to beat Shoaib
Akhtar for pace, Lee is nevertheless a formidable
force. The manner in which he broke Abdur Razzaq’s
wrist in the recent series against Pakistan is
testament to his ability to damage with his outright
pace.
His tenacity, heart and aggression are also above
question and one only has to look back to his
back-to-back man-of-the-match performances in
the VB Series finals to know that he is a player
who cannot be ignored.
Ahead of the Ashes and VB Series Lee was feeling
the heat with ACB chairman of selectors Trevor
Hohns telling him in no uncertain terms that he
needed to improve his work rate. Lee did just
that and ended the Australian summer as the form
Baggy Green bowler - having relished the added
responsibility placed on his shoulders following
injuries to Warne, McGrath and Gillespie. |
