Situated in the Vale of Belvoir in Leicestershire Belvoir
Castle has an approximate value of £85 million
and is owned by the Duke of Rutland.
Belvoir Castle is an older and
more beautiful than any of the other royal palaces and
is thought to be the real jewel in the Midland’s
crown.
The Castle can be found in a wonderful
hilltop setting that looks out on to the Vale of Belvoir,
with delightful views form its parapets and towers.
It was here that the film The Haunting that starred
Catherine Zeta Jones and Liam Neeson was filmed and
Ismail Merchant and James Ivory film The Golden Bowl
also filmed in the castle.
As the castle has 160 rooms, five acres of roof, invaluable
art collections, antiques, furniture all cost £500,000
a year it is rather a constant worry for the 11th Duke
and Duchess of Rutland.
The state dinning room and ballroom
are hired out by the Rutland’s for corporate entertainment
and private parties. In the Guard Room here you can
get married. The Duke doesn’t look to shooting
to make money as he is the president of the pro-hunting
Countryside Alliance. The guests to the castle can stay
and shoot partridge, pheasant and duck on the 15,000
acre estate.
