Kelly Sotherton took an Olympic bronze medal in the Heptathlon event.

Sotherton finished 11 points behind the silver medalist Austra Skujvte. The eventual winner Carolina Kluft finished a huge 517 points clear.

While the reigning champion Denise Lewis pulled out of the competition due to a poor run of results.

After an excellent long jump, Kelly Sotherton was in silver position, however she didn’t do as well in the javelin event only managing 37.19 metres and despite putting in an excellent performance in the 800m, Austra Skujvte managed to hold on to secure the silver medal.
