Holiday Fashions Sparkle with Shine and Color
(ARA) - This season, dressing
for the holidays is extremely trend driven. Traditional
is out; glamorous is in.
“Holiday dressing embraces sophisticated, feminine
looks,” explains T.J. Maxx Fashion Consultant
Laura McDowell. “The ladylike glamour of fall
prevails; the colors and styles go beyond the basic
black dress.”
Color is key. Wearing red and
green together is no longer a prerequisite for holiday
parties; instead, try the unexpected: deep purples,
shades of pink and shiny metallics. This season black
is used more as an accent shade; mix with vivid brights
or pale pastels.
Holiday dressing need not be expensive.

The Feminine Side of Things
Flirty and fancy party dresses
are back in vogue; fitted frocks with pleated chiffon
skirts (great for twirling) look feminine without being
overdone. Add a brooch and it’s a totally modern
look! Suits are far from conservative: jackets shimmer
in satin and silk, often embellished with decorative
buttons; skirts are festive with lace overlays and flounced
hems. Try a corset or bustier under the jacket; the
look is hip, yet dressy. For the office party or a casual
approach, yet still party attire, remove the blazer
and wear a camisole paired with cropped pants and high
heels. Heels are a knockout in such colors as fire engine
red and aquamarine. Keep in mind, these pieces can work
together or separately and are perfect for day-to-evening
dressing.
Mix and match is the key to a
versatile holiday wardrobe. T.J. Maxx’s McDowell
advises, “Make the most of your wardrobe by mixing
new purchases with existing pieces. A few festive additions
will instantly update your wardrobe and provide terrific
fashion options for the holidays.”
Add a Little Sparkle
Accessories can completely transform
an outfit. This season the handbag is the pièce
de résistance. What’s new: clutch and hobo
shapes in metallic finishes; iridescent colors, embossed
skins, velvet, suede, faux fur and satin.
Jewelry is a mix of bold and romantic;
colored stones are everywhere. Big cuff bracelets look
great at night -- as do “fun” cocktail rings
and linear earrings. For shoes, stilettos never go out
of style.
