Divorce - New Spouses and Cohabitees
Theoretically, the financial situation of a new partner is only relevant in so far as it relieves the husband or wife of expense. If, for instance, the husband plans to live with his new partner who owns a house, less weight will be given to his wish to buy a house for himself.
Any maintenance order for a wife comes to an end when she remarries. If she cohabits instead and her new partner supports her, the former husband can apply to have the maintenance reduced or extinguished. However, living with another person will not itself bring the right to receive maintenance to an end. |
