Hunting season is here and a lot of outdoor
sport enthusiasts are starting to think about what they
need to prepare. They are gathering their weapon of
choice, which may be a shotgun, rifle, or even an ice
auger for the over anxious ice fisherman. They’ll
also need the appropriate clothing, which includes long
pants, long-sleeved shirts, hunting boots, helmet; and
a storage system to carry all those accessories.
The old way of toting your gear into a destination is
pretty much extinct. Long gone are the days of packing
everything in a canvas bag and carrying it into the
woods on horseback or foot; a grueling chore for many.
Today, there is an easier way. All terrain vehicles
or ATVs have revolutionized the hunting industry. Not
only can they get you in and out of the woods quickly,
they can serve as pack mules with specific carrying
purposes.
“ATV’s are the new
age horse. They let you quietly get in and out of places
you can’t take a car or truck, and they allow
riders to simply have more fun performing otherwise
dauntless tasks,” says John DeVries, a pro staff
hunting guide.
While they don’t have as
much storage room as a car or truck would, the majority
of Arctic Cat ATVs come standard with a unique platform
that makes up for it -- the (MRP) Speedrack system.
“It allows you to change the way you utilize an
ATV’s carrying capacity. Arctic Cat designed the
system (introduced in model year 2004) to be user friendly,”
says DeVries. The new MRP Speedracks have entry points
built-in below the front and rear racks. A wide assortment
of attachments slide in the entry points for a secure
fit.
Among the accessories available,
a rack basket, which is a steel mesh container used
for hauling awkward gear, a tree stand rack, and chainsaw
caddy. There are also ice auger holders, gun scabbards
and adjustable fishing rod holders.
“The real nice thing about
this system is it is completely removable and ensures
a secure fit for all your gear,” says DeVries.
“When you’re done hunting or fishing, you
can switch out the accessories by pulling a couple pins
and use the ATV to haul wood back to your campsite,
or even fertilize your lawn.
