Shopping for the do-it-yourselfers on your holiday
shopping list is never easy. You know the type: they
are always working on a home-improvement project or
building something in the workshop, and they seemingly
have every doo-dad and widget imaginable.
Finding the perfect gift for them
is a formidable task, a lot like trying to find the
perfect gift for Santa Claus.
Well, if you know someone who
likes to build projects as much as Santa, your search
is over, courtesy of Rockler Woodworking and Hardware.
Rockler recently conducted an online survey of woodworkers
and DIYers. They were asked what they would like to
receive as a gift, and what projects they are currently
building.
The response was overwhelming,
with more than 12,000 DIYers indicating their preferences
on these subjects and more. As a result, Rockler has
prepared for you some great gift solutions for those
hard-to-buy-for types.
Almost 60 percent of respondents
said their current projects include home construction/remodeling
and building furniture. Excellent stocking stuffers
that your favorite DIYer will surely appreciate in this
category include the Clamp-It Assembly Square, the JIG
IT Shelf Drilling Jig, and the Rockler/Insty-Drive 18-Piece
Self-Centering and Countersink Set.
The Clamp-It Assembly Square,
which guarantees a 90-degree joint every time, can handle
a wide variety of woodworking and DIY projects, from
picture frame joinery and drawer assembly to framing
a deck and installing handrails and balusters.
Another innovative gift idea is
the JIG IT Shelf Drilling Jig, which quickly and accurately
spaces shelf pin holes on existing cabinetry or new
construction, allowing for adjustable shelf spacing.
The Rockler/Insty-Drive 18-Piece
Self-Centering and Countersink Set, meanwhile, is a
great gift for any home-improvement enthusiast. It can
handle any drilling application, converting from drilling
and countersinking to installing perfectly centered
hinge or hardware screws in seconds without rechucking
any bits.
For the woodworker on your list,
a 4-Piece Safety Kit is a must-have item to ensure workshop
safety. In Rockler’s online survey, more than
40 percent of respondents said they would like a saw
and/or saw accessory when asked what woodworking tool
or supply they would most like to receive as a gift.
The Safety Kit includes a magnetic
push stick with ergonomic handle for table saw and router
table use, two angled push blocks for jointer and router
table applications, and a table featherboard that fits
standard ¾ inch x 3/8 inch miter slots.
When asked what they are planning
to build as a gift this year, more than 31 percent of
those surveyed said a children’s item was at the
top on their list. An easy-to-build and fun children’s
project is Rockler's wooden High Chair Plan with accompanying
tray hardware.
If you still can’t decide
what to get that hard-to-buy-for woodworker or DIYer,
consider purchasing a Rockler Gift Card, which makes
an ideal present for someone far away. Gift cards are
available in any dollar amount and can be used at Rockler’s
35 retail stores, online at Rockler.com or in Rockler’s
catalog.
