When buying a new TV you need to consider, most importantly
the screen types and size, picture quality and audio
capability. Besides these important factors take a
good look at the remote control, and other features
such as the number of connectors and the channel selection
the set offers you.
TV Type/Screen Type
Direct-View Television
These use a glass picture tube and are the most versatile
of all. Despite their size limit, they are also the
standard against which the picture qualities of other
display technologies are measured. There are different
types of screens available for direct view televisions.
They are:
Standard : The standard TV
screen is curved. This picture tube is the conventional
type, without any special modifications to it.
Full Flat Square Tube : The screen is significantly
flattened, reducing picture distortion and glare,
along with brighter colors and deeper blacks. The
screen is flatter and provides a more theater-like
experience.
Flat Tube : The screen is
completely flat with no visible curves or bends at
the corners or edges. They greatly reduce room-light
reflection, maximize and brighten contrast and colors,
and have a wide viewing angle. There no distortions
present in the pictures.
Projection Television
These are real theatre like experience within the
ambience of your home. Obviously, they are also some
of the most expensive TV's.
Projection sets are the really large screen sets,
offering sizes from about 46 to120 inches (and more
- provided you have the room and the income). They
are available in two kinds - front and rear projection.
Rear Projection : They offer
big, bright pictures that can be viewed from just
about any angle in an average home and still offer
excellent viewing.
Front Projection : These follow
the traditional "theatre" configuration
of a separate screen and projector. Some of the projectors
can be mounted onto a wall cabinet while others can
be hung from your ceiling. However, one rule has to
be assiduously followed here. The larger the screen
size the more would be the distance to be maintained
between the screen and the projector. Therefore, your
room size becomes very important for selecting a set.
