Celebrity Gossip: Monday,
May 31
Fans of the decorating star who don't want to see
her get a lot of time in the slammer should grab a
copy of the June 7 issue of Newsweek (on newsstands
Monday, May 31). According to a feature story on Stewart,
she hopes to limit her stay in prison by taking part
in her own work release program to teach low-income
and minority women how to become entrepreneurs. It's
not a bad idea, but court officials may be a little
worried that Stewart's students will also learn some
ways to cheat the system from someone who failed in
that subject. It's a nice try though if it floats.
Whatever the blockbuster flicks Shrek2 and The Day
After Tomorrow take in at the box office over the
four-day Holiday period will far exceed the small
amount Culkin's new film, Saved!, earns at the box
office ... but in many ways, Saved! could be the big
winner. The film about a born-again Christian girl
who sleeps with her gay boyfriend to convert him to
her way of thinking is only playing at twenty theaters.
According to estimates of ticket sales through Sunday,
it earned more than $15,000 per screen. Now all it
needs is 4,000 screens like the big films in order
to be a major hit. Culkin explained his new formula
for choosing roles recently when he said, "I'd
rather NOT just slap something together and slap my
name on it and put it out there and see if it sticks
to the wall." Maybe Saved! will be a hit for
him, Mandy Moore and Jena Malone.
Fans of the science fiction tube series Babylon 5
will be sad to hear that the man who played Dr. Stephen
Franklin in the television and movie versions of the
cult hit died at his California home this month from
what some reporters are calling an aneurysm or stroke.
The former Soap Opera star (Days of Our Lives) was
only 44 at the time of his passing. He is survived
by his wife and two sons. A memorial for Biggs will
be held at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga,
California sometime in the near future.
Arkansas papers reported Sunday that the former Party
of Five star got married on Saturday at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. His bride, Kelley
Limp (The Real World), chose her hometown to be the
one place on Earth she and Wolf will always remember
as the city that launched their long journey together
into the future. The happy couple will honeymoon in
Africa before taking up residence in Santa Monica,
California.
