Celebrity News: Sunday,

Alan Bates:
The BBC reported early Sunday morning that the 69-year-old
English actor died of cancer on Saturday night at
a London hospital. Even though Bates won the Best
Actor Tony Award in 2002 for his performance on Broadway
in Fortune's Fool, he is best known for his work in
movies like The Entertainer, Women In Love, Georgy
Girl, Zorba the Greek and Gosford Park. My favorite
Bates movie is the 1966 anti-war film The King of
Hearts which featured him as a soldier on a mission
to disconnect explosive devices in a French town that
ends up being run by inmates who escape from a local
asylum. The actor is survived by one son, a granddaughter
and two brothers. No funeral or memorial information
has been released yet.
Now that Rehn and Ryan Sutter have gotten over their
million dollar wedding it's time for a little bit
more of the celebrity action. The newlyweds will be
riding on the FTD Float called "Love Songs"
during the Rose Bowl parade on New Year's Day. It
might be hard to spot the smiling couple. The FTD
Float will feature 100,000 roses.
The lovely star of Titanic gave her husband, film
director Sam Mendes, a perfect gift for Christmas.
Winslet gave birth to Joe Mendes (7 pounds, 13 ounces)
on December 22 in New York. She also has a three-year-old
daughter, Mia, from an earlier marriage with British
film director Jim Threapleton.
If you were hoping to pick up a copy of the Senator's
"Living History" on the cheap while visiting
in China during the New Year's holiday period, forget
it. Her publisher will not allow the Chinese to publish
her work in their native language because the government
wants to delete segments from the book -- think Tiananmen
Square for starters. Clinton's book has already sold
more than 1.5 million copies in the United States.
Fans of ABC's daytime drama One Life to Live will
be excited in February when Derwin returns to the
series in his familiar role of Ben Davidson. Derwin
left "One Life" in 2002 in order to play
Bonnie Hunt's on-screen husband, Mark Molloy, in ABC's
prime time comedy series Life with Bonnie. His return
proves that "One Life" offers second chances
to the right people.
