Oxford
Cowley Road has some good
pubs - "The Pub" - a super place, Cafe
CoCo - a restaurant / cocktail bar thingy - not
especially smart though and various others along
the road - I guess it is the Pub Crawl Road of
Oxford - but not nearly as big as the Otley Road
in Leeds and a touch more expensive.
Loads of pubs in the town
centre - all the usual, Firkin / Irish pubs etc.
There is a Jongleurs (Comedy Place) which is pretty
good for the Gucci Set - they get loads of famous
faces there anyway so that's nice.
Not much of a dance club
scene though plenty of cheese available "Park
end" - can't fail to pull a pig. PoNaNA -
really good place to go - lots of different types
of music - caters for most tastes; "The Old
Firestation" - dripping with Brie and Gorgonzola
- but a good giggle if you want some eighties
stuff.
There are quite a few bars
opening soon - "All Bar One", "Bar
Risa", "Cafe Boheme" - all very
trendy - but not too scary!!
Of course not everything
in Oxford has to do with alcohol - um you could
look around the beautiful University gardens /
Parks - ummmmm ...watch Oxford Ladies play rugby
(sorry - had to get it in somewhere!) Go punting
- always a giggle - especially if pissed
Unusual spot that we went
to some weeks ago for eats - on the Cowley Road.
A restaurant called the Hi-Lo. Jamaican in theme,
serves the strangest food, no menu, they just
give you a choice of "vegetarian, chicken
or fish". Prices are made up on the spot,
so it is a bit of a gamble, but run by the 'happy'
rastafarian owner, who is so laid back, you have
to step over him on the way out. A 'different'
evening, and probably for those who are bored
of the general pizza-type stuff.
In terms of sport THE main
attraction must be the Oxford Ladies Rugby Team
of which, surprisingly, we are members and more
than happy to provide details of fixtures etc.
Oh and punting - where the sport is in keeping
your head above water whilst holding a long stick
at the right end of the boat - Cambridge types
do it from the wrong end.
