Edinburgh
Some famous bloke (probably
dead now) once said, apparently, that Edinburgh
is everything Paris should be. He is, alas, dead
now but the city's reputation has changed little.
If you're looking for cosmopolitan, for pubs that
are open just that little bit later, legally,
for a mix of hectic nightlife and serene views
then this could be your place.
There are a whole variety
of pubs and bars to suit all tastes but the important
thing is they're allowed to be open later than
any others in Britain and that usually suits most
tastes. There are "those quaint little places
where the quaint guy plays on his quaint fiddle"
and there are the "trendy, hip, and cool
places" where they play a lot of "Doof
Doof music". Thanks to Gran for the quote.
You'll find much of the
nightlife on Leith Walk and Broughton Street,
on George Street and most streets off the Royal
Mile.
Everyone knows about Edinburgh's
International and Fringe Festivals held here every
Summer but there are lots more as you might expect
- check out www.eif.co.uk for more details on
dates and events.
New Year is quite a "Big
Do" too so I'm told. I expect it could get
a bit nippy though so do wrap up dears!
If sport is your thing then
there are amazing facilities around and about
plus the countryside is pretty nifty too; check
out the Pentland Hills for walking.
