| Worcester
Worcester has the all the diversity
that one might hope for when searching for a place to
eat out. Those who thirst for history and a touch of
the macabre cannot help but be impressed with the King
Charles II Restaurant. Housed in one of Worcester’s
oldest remaining buildings, the diner can revel in a
setting of lavish oak panelling and roaring open fires.
Yet, don’t forget your money to pay the bill,
because the restaurant won’t have you washing
dishes but cast into its own dungeon. From the old to
the new, the Lemon Tree is a fresh, contemporary bistro,
welcoming influences from throughout the continent of
Europe. A taste of the exotic can be found with the
excellence of the Royal Balti Restaurant and the Purbani
Tandoori Restaurant and Thai has really never tasted
better than at Orchids Thai Restaurant. Traditional
and contemporary English cuisine is perhaps Worcester’s
greatest strength and the selection of restaurants mirrors
this. The Glasshouse thrives on offering a new style
of English cuisine, fresh and clean with flash cooking
rather than the lengthy stewing and roasting of tradition
cookery. Bakers and Browns are famous for steak and
delicately cooked fish dishes, revelling in quality
local ingredients.
Britain.tv’s Choice of the Month:
Ostlers
Ostlers is an oasis in the busy
centre of Worcester, and should be enjoyed at the first
opportunity. The emphasis is placed on fresh produce
and menus which complement it best. The menus themselves
change every week but favourites at the Ostlers are
always available. Steak, lamb shanks and large, meaty
fish such as tuna and monkfish are restaurant specialities.
The strangeness of Ostlers is that it is great to visit
anytime, whether it be an indulgent Friday night meal
or quick bite for lunch.
