| Liverpool
As could be expected of a city
which is in the running for the coveted European Capital
of Culture in 2008, the restaurants are of a suitably
elevated standard. It seems no matter what form of cuisine
is chosen, there are numerous outstanding alternatives.
Number Seven Café and The Other Place Restaurant
offer contemporary Eniglish dishes with specials changing
on a daily basis. For those who love a taste of the
Far East, Tai Pan and Chung Ku Chinese Restaurant satisfy
handsomely. Tai Pan represents the more traditional
approach to cantonese dining but the authenticity of
the cooking attracts all. Whereas Chung Ku Chinses Restaurant
welcomes more modern styles and décor, boasting
two floors of open dining and wonderful views out over
the river. The Gulshan Indian Restaurant basks in glory
of numerous awards, for example a place in the Michelin
Guide and being recognised as the Best in the North
for two years straight by the Good Curry Guide. The
Blue Bar and Grill has set tongues wagging with style
and class integrating both restaurant and bar. Taste,
based in the Tate Gallery, gives great food for the
eyes as well as mouth.
Britain.tv’s Choice of the Month:
St Petersburg Russian Restaurant
Holds the honour of being the
only Russian restaurant to be found outside of the nation’s
capitol. Anywhere else, the décor would most
likely be regarded as tacky, however, given the place,
suits of armour and gilt iron chandeliers fit nicely.
The dark colours create an intimate atmosphere. The
food is as authentically Russian as possible with favourites
such as beef stroganoff and chicken kiev. Steak Tartar
or raw steak is probably the most infamous of Russian
dishes and is a house speciality. A visit to the St
Petersburg Russian Restaurant is like leaving Liverpool
and transporting oneself to Russia and is an experience
which shouldn’t be passed up
