| Leicester
As you might expect, Leicester
is home to some superb Indian restaurants, seemingly
wishing to prove itself against its better known neighbour,
Birmingham. Though, it would appear that this is all
Leicester has to offer, there are a number of very high
class restaurants serving fantastically differing cuisine.
It also hosts some wonderfully intimate jazz evenings.
At the upper end of the price scale, there are The Case
and The Opera House. The Mediterranean influenced Case
oozes sophistication, boasting crisp, class décor
with plush leather furniture and specialised champagne
bar for drinks before eating. In 2001, The Opera House
won the Best Restaurant at the Leicester and Leicestershire
tourism award ceremony, and standards haven’t
slipped since them, as it remains one of Leicester’s
best. Football fans might jump at the chance to eat
at former Leicester City player Steve Walsh’s
restaurant Walshie's. Man Ho Cantonese restaurant brings
to Leicester a partnership which is commonplace in the
Far East…great food and karaoke.
Indian restaurants must get their mention as Leicester
has the second best Curry house in Britain according
to the Sun in the shape of The Laguna Tandoori. Ashoka
and The Rise Of The Raj keep up the excellent standards
to be found throughout.
Britain.tv’s Choice of the Month:
Bobby’s
Not exactly a traditional name
for an Indian restaurant, Bobby’s doesn’t
play party to any stereotypes associated to Indian dining.
No garish decoration to be found, no loud sitar music
and most noticeable no meat! Yes, Bobby’s is vegetarian,
but those who crave meat shouldn’t run for the
hill just yet. The menu would not be familiar to most,
being from a little known region India, Gujerat. Help
is at hand when choosing but it would be hard to be
disappointed if your meal was randomly selected. Great
value for money, Bobby’s shouldn’t be ignored,
simply because you won’t find anything like it
anywhere else.
