Add
a Touch of Global Glamour to Your Home
Are certain rooms in
your house feeling a bit dated, or perhaps just a
little dull? Sometimes all it takes is one new piece
of furniture with a lot of personality, or a few well-chosen
accessories to bring a room back to life.
“You don’t need to start from scratch
in order to have a room that reflects both your personal
style and the latest trends,” say Chris Tennyson,
director of visual merchandising for Bombay Company.
Spice up your décor with stylish items that
inspire you and touch your imagination.
As an example, Tennyson points
to three trends that Bombay Company is focusing on
for the fall: Buenos Aires, Glamour and Metro Asia.
“They are all very unique, but one thing the
collections have in common is that they are rich in
color and texture, and they transport you to a different
time and place,” he says. Adding a few pieces
from any of these collections to a bland room can
inject a lot of style without spending a lot of money.
Which trend fits you best?
Buenos Aires
This cosmopolitan city was the
1950s holiday haven of Europe’s rich and famous.
They came for the weekend and stayed for the season:
to play polo, drink wine, laze the afternoons away
playing bridge and dance the Tango until the wee hours.
“A variety of European influences and a passionate
Latin flavor collide in a kaleidoscope of rich colors
and lavish textures,” says Tennyson. Forged
iron, embellished silver and carved wood is taken
to a level of artistry. A good example is the Loire
wine trolley from this collection, which features
an elaborately detailed ironwork frame and beautiful
wood shelves; coupled with a set of jewel-hued Tango
goblets, it will set an exotic and mood for your next
party.
Glamour
If you love the style and feel
of old movies, this is the look for you. “Elegant,
sophisticated and very feminine are the perfect words
to describe this theme,” says Tennyson. Inspired
by the Hollywood era of the late ’30s and early
’40s, this environment wraps itself in the luxury
of silk, satin, sable and pearls. Sleek lines and
soft gold finishes complemented with bouquets of lilies
and a flash of crystal are the elements that make
this statement distinctive and glamorous.
Metro Asia
In the heart of the Orient’s
economic and cultural centers, Old World traditions
meld into a global sense of visual esthetics. Clean-line
designs married with historical motifs and patterns
is the basis of this urban Asian statement. Articles
of antiquity, iridescent silks, exotic florals and
contemporary shapes mix together to create a modern,
eclectic point of view. “This look can work
with traditional furniture just as easily as it works
with more modern, clean lines, making it a good fit
for many homes,” says Tennyson. For example,
a hand-carved, hand-painted Monet side chest from
the Metro Asia collection adds instant intrigue to
a room (not to mention a lot of handy storage space).
Use it in an entryway, the dining room, even the bedroom.
“Doing a whole room in
any of these styles could easily go over the top,”
says Tennyson. “But by choosing your favorite
pieces and adding them to your existing decorating
scheme, they provide exclamation points for a room,
the finishing touch that makes a room special.”
“Details make the room,
whether it’s the perfect sofa or the perfect
vase,” says Tennyson. Bombay makes it easy to
add these important touches to any room in the house.
