Many struggle to write Happy Christmas
Even though one billion Christmas cards are sent each year figures from the Department for Education and Skills show that, 68% have little more than a name and greeting inside. This is mainly due to the approximately seven million adults are said to be ‘functionally illiterate’, which means they have the reading age of the average 11-year old or worse.
Many people have bad literacy that they can’t even write a greeting to their friends and family. Only 5% of Britons who send blank cards, they might not even arrive at their destination as the addresses are badly spelt wrong on the envelopes. It is also reported that around 50 million cards are lost in the post due to this.
Christmas is for giving
• Dr David Lewis, a psychologist, has defined the difference in the average man and woman when it comes to choosing and wrapping presents at Christmas; "When it comes to present-buying women are from Venus and most men are from Planet Hopeless. It is said that the females tend to put a great deal of love, thought and care into their gift choices even down to the wrapping paper and ribbons, some males are trained in the slapdash school of gift giving".
Research conducted by the department chain Debenhams' found that women made a mental list of what they are going to buy in advance of Christmas, while men were in a last minute rush to get gift.
